Greene County Democratic Party Backs Palmateer for County Legislature Seat

Cairo, New York, September 14, 2017. – The Greene County Democratic Committee nominated Lee Palmateer to run on the Democratic ticket this November for the Town’s seat on the Greene County legislature, concurring with the recommendation and nomination by the Athens Democratic Committee.

Chairwomen Doreen Davis of the Greene County Democrats and Catherine Censor of the Athens committee said that both committees were thrilled to nominate such a highly qualified candidate whose skills and background allow him to contribute on a number of levels in the legislature. “Greene County is faced with a number of highly challenging issues and I can’t think of a better candidate equipped to make an immediate contribution than Lee Palmateer” said Davis.

The seat was left vacant by the passing a few weeks ago of then-sitting Legislator Gene Hatton; many members of both committees and Mr. Palmateer expressed their respect and admiration for Mr. Hatton. The winner of this fall’s election will serve the remainder of Mr. Hatton’s term, through 2018. An election will be held next November for the full three-year term following.

Mr. Palmateer was born and raised in Athens, and he and his wife Nancy of 30 years raised their three sons in Athens as well. He has been active in the community all his life and has held elected positions as a member of the Coxsackie-Athens School Board and most recently as the Athens Town Supervisor from 2010-2013. Mr. Palmateer currently runs his own law office in Albany focusing on intellectual property law and was a Mechanical Engineer for General Electric earlier in his career. He said that he is “honored to have his party’s support” and “will strive to be the type of representative that the people of Athens deserve and can be proud of.” “I am lucky and proud that I can call Athens and Greene County my home. I look forward to doing my part as we continue down our path to a bright future” he said.
